What are the qualifying medical conditions to get a medical marijuana card in Rhode Island?

Cancer or the treatment of this condition
Glaucoma or the treatment of this condition
Positive status for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or the treatment of this condition

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) or the treatment of this condition
Hepatitis C or the treatment of this condition
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – Patient must be 18 years of age or older.

A chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition or its treatment that produces one or more of the following:
Cachexia or wasting syndrome.
Severe, debilitating, chronic pain.
Severe nausea.
Seizures, including but not limited to those characteristic of epilepsy.
Severe and persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to those characteristic of multiple sclerosis or Crohn’s disease.
Agitation related to Alzheimer’s Disease

How long is a Rhode Island medical marijuana card good for?

Patient and caregiver registrations issued or renewed after January 1, 2017 will expire one year from the date of issuance. Registrations issued or renewed on or before December 31, 2016 will expire on the date indicated on the registry identification cards. Registrations renewed after January 1, 2017, will expire one year after the date it was issued.
The Rhode Island Department of Health will approve or deny an application or renewal within 35 days of receiving it.

What are the requirements for Rhode Island medical marijuana card patients?

1. Must live in Rhode Island and submit a copy of one proof of residency that includes your name and current address, such as:
– ƒRhode Island valid driver’s license.
ƒ- State ID.
ƒ- Current car insurance bill, voter registration or any correspondence from another state agency.

2. Must complete and sign a patient application form. Find the form at
www.health.ri.gov/forms/registration/MedicalMarijuanaNewApplication.pdf.

3. Must have a doctor licensed to practice in Rhode Island fill out and sign a practitioner form.

4. Must pay a $50 non-refundable patient application fee. There is no fee if your doctor
states in writing that you qualify for hospice. The fee is $25 if you send proof with your
application that you receive one of these benefits:
ƒ- Medicaid
ƒ- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
ƒ- Social Security Disability Income (SSDI)
ƒ- Veterans disability
ƒ- Federal railroad disability

5. Must state on the application whether you plan to grow medical marijuana plants for yourself. Patients who will grow marijuana must register their grow location with the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation.

How much is the medical cannabis card application fee paid to the state of Rhode Island?

How long does it take to get a medical marijuana card in Rhode Island?

It can take between 5 to 14 days to process an Application for Initial Registration as a medical marijuana patient according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.

If my medical marijuana card is expired in Rhode Island, do I need to reapply for a new medical cannabis card?
